Welcome to the PWP Blog!
Welcome to the PWP blog page! We are very excited to open up the possibility to communicate with our partners on a regular basis. We will use this page to keep you current with what is happening both here in Canada and in Haiti. We look forward to sharing knowledge, ideas, and thoughts about our work as well as what is happening around our globe with our particular focus on Haiti.
As we close out 2009 and enthusiastically look forward to what’s in store for PWP in 2010, we remain very cognizant that it all happens because of committed individuals that have determined to keep the current programs running and have faith to see new initiatives take off very soon. We are very thankful for all of you.
We are hard at work developing a micro –loan program to offer Haitian women a chance to gain employment through grassroots initiatives. We have many ladies who have graduated from the PWP literacy program with a newfound confidence and desire to change their status within the Haitian community. We want to do everything possible to fuel this positive fire and making a way for employment and independence and micro-loans seems like the natural next step to take.
We heartily concur with a comment made by Kofi Annan, 2006 UN Secretary-General, who said "As study after study has taught us, there is no tool for development more effective than the empowerment of women." It is a very common understanding in the development and/or mission community that raising the status of women in marginalized countries has a far reaching effect. It not only changes their lives, but has a direct impact on the whole family, economy, community and even the ecology of their nations.
The PWP directors feel incredibly honored to participate with the Haitian people who continue to look to the future and never give up no matter how dire their situations are. They truly inspire us! Also inspiring us are our partners who join our hands as we join their hands in solidarity, respect and anticipation of a bright future.
“Women hold up half the sky.”
-Chinese proverb.
P.S. As our blog page develops, I’m trusting that there will be less formal dialogue and more casual, candid conversations with acceptance of the, shall we say, "colorful" personalities of the PWP directors that are sure to come forth.
